As a young girl Sandra Brue liked to carve animal sculptures from a bar of soap. That love of art and animals would eventually lead her to found Sandicast, now the best-known name in animal sculpture worldwide. "When I started Sandicast in my garage back in 1981 with only four pet sculptures - a bunny, fawn, squirrel and Cocker pup - I realized my dream of creating a business that combined my God-given artistic talent with my lifelong love of animals," Brue says. Brue was born in Chicago and moved with her family to San Diego, where Sandicast is headquartered, when she was 3. To create a sculpture, Brue visits live animals and observes their behavior and poses. She befriends the animals, then creates an original clay sculpture detailed down to each individual hair. Each Sandicast sculpture is hand cast, using a mold made from Brue's original, then hand painted. A final touch of realism is achieved with the insertion of specially designed glass eyes. The Sandicast collection is large and Brue introduces new figures twice a year. We hope you enjoy the figures in our on-line catalog. If your breed is not included, send us an e-mail and we'll advise you about availability.
