Pet Supplies FAQs
What does the term dog years mean?
Dogs have a different life expectancy than humans; in fact their life is much shorter than ours. “Dog years” is a phrase coined to indicate that difference. On average, a dog ages 7 years for every calendar year. That means that a dog who is 12 years old is 84 in human terms. While there is variance between breeds, this is a good rule of thumb when determining how old your dog actually is compared to you.
What is the most popular pet?
If we are counting by species, dogs are the most popular pet in America, followed by cats. Dogs have been domesticated for millennia, while a cat is not domesticated in the literal sense of the term. A cat sees its relationship with its owner as more of a peerage than a subordinate/superior relationship.
Why are dogs and cats so much more popular than other pets?
There have been many theories on this question, but the most logical one bases its conclusion on the bond between the pet and the owner. Dogs and cats are both social animals, as an owner of one will tell you, and they have enough brain function to become a part of a household’s social structure. Dogs in particular are very sensitive to the body language of an owner. Both dogs and cats will often come to try and cheer up an owner they sense is not happy. This give and take relationship is a big part of owning a pet, and it is why many people describe themselves as dog people, or cat people.
