Pet Shop

A pet shop is a great place to purchase your next pet. Some are neighborhood run shops that feature a small business, often run by a family. On the other side you have large scale chains such as PetSmart which feature instant name recognition and huge buying power. They are both equally viable options as pet shops, but what would make you choose one over the other?

Well mom and pop shops are rooted in the community, but their commercial reach is limited by their size and their small scale of business. This means that if you have or intend to have an exotic pet, they may not feature the products you need to care for your pet. With many small shops however, they will special order items like this for customers, which is a great way around that issue.

With the big pet shop chains you run into the opposite side of the spectrum. Their commercial reach is so large that they have just about anything you could want under their roof. However if they don’t have what you want, they are far more likely to tell you that company policy prohibits them from doing anything to help you. And of course very little of the money you spend in places like that stays in your community.

There is actually another alternative entirely for your pet shop needs. You can check an online pet shop. They avoid the overhead costs of a traditional store entirely , which can result in huge savings for you. Of course, asking questions of an online store can be difficult, and you have even less assurance that your money stays in your community than you do with a chain pet store, but if the bottom line is price, then online stores are hard to beat.
