Pet Collars

Pet collars started out as a means of attachment both literally and figuratively. Dog collars are where the leash attaches to the dog, a literal form of attachment. They are also where the owner puts an identification tag, which is a less physical, but no less literal form of attachment. However, today pet collars are used for more than that.

The most obvious use of pet collars as something other than a mooring point is the medicated collars that you can now get. These collars are flea and tick treatments that travel with your pet, whenever they go.  This ensures that the pests don’t have a foothold to gain, and helps guard against the diseases they bring with them.

The other major use for pet collars is as decoration. Everyone would like to claim the most beautiful dog in the world, and some people act on these wishes. The collar is the first widely accepted piece of pet clothing, but it is certainly only the beginning, and not the end of the line on that particular train of invention. Today you can dress your pooch up as anything from a firefighter to a witch, and just about anything in between. But one and all, these costumes hinge on a collar.
