A true Flower Child of the 1960s, Laurel Burch gave away her early handmade pet jewelry to passersby who admired it as she wore it along the streets of San Francisco. Soon, the distinctive pet creations of this self-taught artist would be sought out internationally for their vivid colors and vibrant affirmation of life. Today, Laurel Burch pet designs are found on a broad range of merchandise including jewelry, fine ceramic pieces and even socks! Most of her subjects are animals or nature, and many of her best-loved pieces feature cats.
Laurel Burch designs are so unmistakable, and her collectors so enthusiastic, that the first words from customers entering CATS 'N' DOGS in Geneva, Illinois, can be: "Oh, you carry Laurel Burch!" And that realization may be followed by a story of how that person came to love Laurel Burch creations, or a smile that doesn't go away all the time they're in the store. "The purpose of my art is to inspire living from the heart," Laurel Burch says. "I want to create in a way that celebrates life in the most intimate and precious ways possible, for ourselves and for each other."
